Full of Art! The Art Center White Block of Heyri Art Village - by Kim Yevin

Art Center White Block is a striking white building which located the center of Heyri. It is one of the biggest art centers in Heyri and has 4-5 exhibitions a year. We, who have visited Heyri many times, already knew the Art Center White Block’s building. For its beautiful and impressive exterior, Art Center White Block won many prizes, including the AIA New England Design Award 2011.

One of the most attractive points of the building’s appearance is the use of many diagonal lines. Both inside and outside, stairways of the building have gentle diagonal walkways  that are fun to walk along. Another feature is the open structure which gives a lot of natural light. When we looked around the building at 4 p.m., we could enjoy the natural light and pleasant artwork.

Art Center White Block currently has an exhibition of ‘Meaningful Patterns’. Five pattern artists joined together to show their unique pattern artwork. We found the strong personalities of pattern artists through their art, and we all had a unique personal feeling for each style. A small art shop, a roof garden and a cafe which has delicious ‘ice mint chocolate latte’ welcomed us too.

With its spacious building, the White Block offers various artistic experiences and opportunities for everyone, including artists, investors and visitors. White Block is full of art. It helps every visitor to become more art-friendly.
Art Center White Block’s mission for Korean contemporary art is fostering next generation artists. To accomplish this mission, it also runs a studio for promising rookies of visual art. White Block provides them with not only a personal workroom but also opportunities for team exhibitions. This investment by White Block is obviously beneficial. Many potential artists give up their passion and talent because of financial challenges.

We found our visit to Art Center White Block meaningful, and a good opportunity to be supporters of Korean art society.
